Brian Wright - Drawing and Photography

I was born at Bath in Somerset and grew up on a farm. I have always been fascinated by nature. After university and some time doing research work, I worked teaching Biology at a Sixth form College for many, many years and then went freelance teaching in local Colleges and offering home tuition.
My interest in drawing is long standing. I used to paint animals on the bathroom doors at home as a child but then did little until I retired, when I needed to find things to do.
My interest in photography has its roots from when I did research at University. In those days I had to do my own developing and printing for my research project. Long hours were spent in the dark room getting everything just right. It is so very different today where lots happens with the click of a button.
I have lived in Newcastle for the past 32 years and love the area. There is so much to do and see.
Almost all of my drawings were done in the Great North Museum (Hancock) where I am a volunteer with the Natural History Society of Northumbria which is based in the museum. My task was to be proactive in the upper gallery giving help and information to visitors. Mainly it was to children of the visiting schools.
In the quiet spaces between I would get out my pad and draw. Some of the drawings have their inspiration from the animals on display around me.
The photographs are all ones I have taken in doing photography and in travelling.
