About the picture:    The hungry Kittiwake

 

The mother is feeding its chick on the wooden posts remaining from the jetty of the old Lloyd’s Hailing Station at the entrance to the River Tyne. In the background is the Collingwood Memorial erected in memory of Lord Collingwood of the Battle of Trafalgar. Also the North pier of the Tyne, with the lighthouse is seen.
